New Law Would Help Stranded Drivers
Sacramento, CA — Ever locked your keys in the car or lost them altogether when you don´t have access to a dealership for a replacement of a coded key?
AAA of Northern California is trying to solve that problem through the legislature by sponsoring SB1542. AAA Spokesman Sean Comey says many automobile manufacturers will not share these codes with the car owner or a locksmith. Service departments are not open around the clock and when they are, they will often charge premium prices for new keys, sometime more than $500.
The details of the proposed system are not specifically spelled out in the legislation because a single solution may not be the best fit for every car company.
