Middle College Proposal Will Be Discussed Later This Week

Columbia, CA — A meeting will be held later this week to discuss a proposal to establish a “middle college” program in the Mother Lode.

The program would be a joint effort between Columbia College and Sonora High School. The concept is to allow a select group of students to take their high school classes at Columbia, as well as some college courses in the process.

Columbia Vice President of Student Learning Dennis Gervin says that for whatever reasons, some capable students do not flourish in high school.

Gervin says,The hope is that a situation like this can be that change that can open a door for somebody.”

Enrollment would be limited to 30 juniors and 30 seniors. A parent and student information night for “middle college” will be held at 7pm Wednesday at the Sonora High School Library.
