Special District For Parks
San Andreas, CA – A summit was held in San Andreas to discuss the possibility of creating a special Parks and Recreation District.
The event, held Wednesday evening at the San Andreas Town Hall, was put on by members of the County’s Parks and Recreation Commission. According to Commission Chair Mason Goodale, around 50 people were on hand.
“The proposed District would support and partner with the existing service providers that provide programs and facilities,” says Goodale.
The District would also assist in grant writing, maintenance and facility improvements. Some of the parks in the county are lacking needed upkeep and attention due to challenges in recruiting volunteers. The proposed district would require a funding source, and how that will work is still being discussed. The final proposal will likely go before Calaveras County voters during the November 2012 general election. It would not apply to the City of Angels Camp and a portion of San Andreas where Parks Districts are already in place.
