Varni Will Retire

San Andreas, CA – Calaveras County Clerk and Recorder Karen Varni says she will not seek re-election.

Varni has worked in Calaveras County government for 36 years, and almost 20 as an elected official. She says the decision will allow her more time for her family and personal life.

Varni released a written statement this morning reading, “The decision to not seek re-election is one that I have agonized and prayed over. Special consideration was given to how this change would affect staff, the county and the people I serve. I now confidently announce my retirement at the conclusion of my fifth term.”

Candidates that have indicated that they plan to run for Clerk-Recorder are Sharon Romano, Madaline R. Krska and Anita Paque.
