Higher Costs Projected For Dream Act

Sacramento, CA– A pending state law that will allow illegal immigrant university students to apply for public financial aid could eventually cost nearly $65 million.
According to the Associated Press, the Department of Finance says the California Dream Act could grant about $14.5 million from the $1.4 billion Cal Grant program. California’s nonpartisan legislative analyst says new projections are four times higher than previously predicted.
Opponents are trying to gather enough signatures to put the issue before voters next November. They say the law could take funding from legal residents.
