Thousands Attend Health Fair

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Overall, organizers of this week’s Tuolumne County Health Fair are calling the event a success.

Kathy Amos, Nurse RN with the Tuolumne County Public Health Department, says 3,885 people registered at the event, and 3,691 had a blood draw. The attendance is down by about five percent from last year. Amos says it could be due to the increasing number of similar health fairs starting to take place across the region.

It is noted that there were 84 booths set up at this year’s event, up by 10 from the year prior. There were also 225 volunteers.

Amos has some advice for everyone who was in attendance. “It is one thing to get the information at the health fair, and another thing to put it into practice,” she says. “I hope everyone implements at least one activity or piece of information, whether that is more activity, changing of diet, or being safer in their environment.”

This year marked the 34th year of the annual event.
