Chase Ends With Pot Tossed From Car Window

Sonora, CA – A suspect is being sought after nearly crashing into a patrol car and a pedestrian, which prompted a chase.

Sonora Police report that around 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday an officer was driving eastbound on Shaws Flat Road when an Acura sedan crossed the center line and almost hit the patrol car head-on. The officer made a U-turn to pursue the vehicle that headed towards Saratoga Road. Once on that road, the driver almost hit a pedestrian, according to Sgt. Tim Wertz, who adds the suspect then threw something out the window. Officers were not able to locate the vehicle, but upon returning to the area to investigate what was pitched, Sgt. Wertz details, “They threw two bags of marijuana out of the vehicle…It was found that there was 218 grams of packaged marijuana in these bags. Being individually packaged inside the gallon Ziploc bags it looks like it was for sale.”

To signal to the suspect that they may have eluded capture, but that there is no need to return to the scene to find their pot, police posted this teasing message: “If the driver of the white Acura who ditched the officer on Saratoga Rd today, at approximately 3:30 PM, wants to claim the property (pictured) that “FELL” out of your car-please contact the Sonora Police Department at 100 S. Green St.  :) – Proof of ownership will be required”

Sgt. Wertz relays they are seeking the public’s help in regard to the incident even though the only description available is that the vehicle is a white Acura sedan. Anyone with information related to the car or suspect is asked to contact SPD at 209-532-8141.
