Update: Search For Missing Hiker Continues In Yosemite

Update at 2:30 p.m.: Yosemite National Park Rangers, assisted by a California Highway Patrol (CHP) helicopter from Fresno, California, continue searching for Alexander Joseph Sevier, a missing park visitor. Park Rangers, search dogs, and the helicopter are searching trails in and above Yosemite Valley trying to locate the active US Navy member whose personal belongings were still at his campsite

Update at 11:50am: A search continues in Yosemite National Park for missing hiker Alexander Joseph Sevier, an active member of the US Navy, who was visiting the park alone.

Park officials say Sevier was staying at Housekeeping Camp, and neighbors reported that he would go out for day hikes each day. He arrived on Monday, May 1st and was last seen on Wednesday, May 3rd. Park visitors that may have seen Sevier are asked to call 1-888-653-0009 with any information.

Sevier works at the Navy Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia.

Ranger Scott Gediman says Sevier was scheduled to travel back to the Bay Area on Saturday to catch a flight, but he never made it. His belongings were located at the camp in Yosemite.

According to officials, search efforts in the park include rangers looking on and around popular hiking trails, “YODOGs”- trained dogs searching, and a helicopter from the California Highway Patrol (H-40) out of Fresno. Search efforts have concentrated on popular hiking trails that originate in Yosemite Valley such as the Upper Yosemite Fall Trail, and the Mist Trail.  About 30 people are currently involved in the search

Original story posted at 7:20am: Yosemite, CA — Yosemite National Park officials are looking for a man that was last seen a week ago.

Park officials report that 24-year-old Alexander Joseph Sevier was last spotted in the housekeeping camp last week. It believed that he may have taken a day hike over towards Yosemite Valley. A wide scale search took place over the weekend. Park officials say it is believed that Sevier could be wearing Holister, Aeropostale or Abercrombie clothing. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should call 209-379-1992. He is 5’6”, 128 lbs, with black hair and brown eyes.
