Local Charities Hit The Jackpot
Tuolumne, CA — Both Tuolumne and Calaveras county charities recently got a chance at a windfall of money thanks to Black Oak Casino.
Eleven non-profits were able to choose a representative to enter the cash cube full of swirling money and grab as much green as they could. In the past 13th years, Black Oak has given away almost $165,000, according to Black Oak Casino’s Marketing Director Al O’Brien, who says, “We had about 60 applications this year. We try to get different ones on a yearly basis so the same non-profits aren’t involved every year. A lot of them are smaller charities that don’t really have the fundraising mechanisms in place – this is a real windfall for them.”
O’Brien happily states that a total of $15,310 was grabbed in the cube. Here is the breakdown of the non-profits and the cash amounts hauled in this year:
- Big Dreams: $2,280
- Duende: $2,230
- Sierra Hope: $1,630
- ATCA Homeless Outreach: $1,490
- Parents by Choice: $1,320
- Operation Creekside: $1,280
- HorseSpeak: $1,270
- NAMI: $1,110
- Calaveras Cancer Support: $1,070
- Mother Lode Wildlife Care: $880
- VFW post 3154: $750
