Yosemite Cemetery Rededication Ceremony
Yosemite, CA — A ceremony was held yesterday to commemorate the restoration of the Yosemite Cemetery.
The non-profit Yosemite Conservancy recently completed the restoration of the historic cemetery, located in Yosemite Valley. Park officials report that 75 people were on hand, including several descendants of pioneers of the park.
Retired State Park Ranger Miles Standish provided a living history demonstration of Galen Clark, who was born 200 years ago, and became the first “Park Guardian” appointed by the State of California.
President Abraham Lincoln signed the Yosemite Grant Act in 1864, establishing Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Grove as protected wild land.
