American Taliban Fighter In US Custody
The head of the US Central Command says an American captured with Taliban fighters is now aboard a Navy ship in the Arabian Sea.
General Tommy Franks says 20-year-old John Walker is “safe and being well cared for.” Walker is from Marin County in Northern California.
Walker surrendered after a prison riot near Mazar-e-Sharif. He´d been held at a Marine base camp in southern Afghanistan.
Franks says Walker was flown to a Marine amphibious ship, off the coast of Pakistan.
But Franks says he doesn´t know when Walker will be returned to the US.
He says Walker will remain on the USS Peleliu until a decision is made about whether he´ll face military or civilian justice.
