The largest criminal investigation in American history has exposed at least a half-dozen centers of terrorist support on U.S. soil. Federal investigators who asked NOT to be identified say one of the apparent operations is in the San Diego area.
Their suspected activities in California include both fund-raising and recruiting among Arab college students.
The F-B-I is reported to be looking at an area near San Diego with evidence since the early nineties of fund-raising for suspected terrorists, and extremist newsletters linked to an Algerian terrorist group.
Authorities also have traced investments by a Saudi businessman accused of aiding Osama bin Laden, to a diamond company in San Diego.
