A UC Santa Cruz study says mercury in rain that falls on California comes from industrial emissions spawned in
Asia. The study says the mercury isn´t a health threat by itself. However – mercury pollution is a significant problem in San Francisco Bay and other California waterways.
Russell Flegal is a professor of environmental toxicology at UC Santa Cruz and a co-author of the study He says the study should help state regulatory agencies looking for ways to cut the amount of mercury getting into state waters.
