A former spokesman for the Santa Rosa Band of Mission Indians will spend next year in federal prison for stealing more than $96,000 from the non-gaming tribe.
Orlando Anthony Largo also was ordered to serve three years of supervised probation after he completes his sentence and he must repay the money. A federal prosecutor says the repayment will come from a fund that under law gives non-gaming tribes money from gaming tribes.
The prosecutor says Largo pleaded guilty to embezzlement for writing and cashing 186 tribal checks he made out to himself. Largo begins serving his sentence on January third.
