Firefighter Airlifted To Modesto After Wreck

Sponsored by:

A Calaveras County volunteer firefighter was injured when he was hit by a car at the scene of a minor-injury accident on Mountain Ranch Road this morning.

California Highway Patrol officer Paul Vaccarezza says the firefighter, Jim Moore, had just gotten on-scene when he stepped out from behind a fire engine and walked into the road with his back to on-coming traffic.

Moore was struck by a Saturn driven by 17-year-old Jessica Claus of Mountain Ranch. He was knocked unconscious and flown to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment. The extent of his injuries was not immediately known.

Tuolumne-Calaveras County Fire department spokeswoman Annette Roestler says Moore is a volunteer with the Central Fire department in Mountain Ranch.
