Students Did Better Than Reported

Sponsored by:

More students passed the state´s high school exit exam than originally reported.

State Department of Education officials blame a computer glitch for an earlier underreporting. Starting with the class of 2004, students are required to pass the test before they can graduate from high school.

When the results were released last month, the department reported only 64 percent of the students set to graduate in 2004 passed the English language arts portion and 53 percent passed the math section.

However, today, state officials say 73 percent of the students passed the English section and 53 percent passed the math section.
