Calaveras County State Assemblyman Tim Leslie has introduced a bill that would prohibit electronic advertising messages to cell phones and pagers.
Electronic advertising, or spam, is a way for companies to cheaply sell their wares over a vast number of internet subscribers. But unlike an ad that comes up on your home computer, messages sent to a cell phone are charged to the recipint.
The number of cell phones and pagers with text capabilities owned by the public has increased nearly four-fold over the last three years, totalling over 110 million units, prompting the bill´s creation.
