Drinking Blamed For More Accidents, Arrests

Sponsored by:

Drinking and driving contributed to a number of vehicle accidents and arrests this past weekend.

The California Highway Patrol Jamestown office reports 42 year-old Copperopolis resident Niki Shelby was driving westbound on Highway 4 Friday night when she lost control on a curve west of Poole Station Road and flipped her Jeep Wrangler.

CHP says she was intoxicated and was arrested. She suffered minor injuries in the mishap.

A 56 year-old Sonora man hit a traffic sign on Highway 108 near Phoenix Lake Road Saturday night while driving under the influence and fled the scene on foot. He was quickly apprehended on Phoenix Lake Road at Hess Avenue and taken into custody on DUI and hit and run charges.

A Bay Area man was also taken into custody on DUI charges this weekend after the GMC Jimmy he was towing came loose from a tow dolly and overturned on Railroad Flat Road. The CHP says because of his intoxication, Arnett Hall of Castro Valley drove another 2 miles before realizing he had lost the other vehicle. He was arrested when he returned to find the overturned truck.
