Yosemite Valley Plan Meeting Wednesday

Sponsored by:

An emergency community meeting is planned in Sonora tomorrow to stop a proposed lock out of Yosemite National Park.

U.S. Congress holds a hearing April 22 to review the $441 million Yosemite Valley Plan.

A local group – Visitors and Communities for an Open Yosemite – vows to fight that plan. They say the plan before Congress reduces campgrounds, day use parking and does economic damage to Yosemite Park gateway communities.

Tomorrow night€™s meeting is 7:30, at the Best Western Sonora Oak on Hess Avenue in East Sonora. It´s the first of three planned public meetings in the Yosemite region this week to develop responses to the Congressional hearing.

The meetings continue in Oakhurst on Thursday and in Mariposa next Monday. Congress will hold a hearing on the Yosemite Valley Plan in the park next Tuesday.
