Farm officials say chemical thefts are on the rise as hot weather breeds pests and diseases. Judy Fitzgerald with the California Farm Bureau says the thefts are definitely on the rise. “I recently attended a statewide meeting of law enforcement and that was one of the main things they were talking about,” she said. “Not only chemical thefts, but the meth labs are also really busy right now.” She added that meth labs are showing up on farms and even vineyards across California. Authorities suggest Farmers mark their chemicals with ID numbers and keep a closer eye on storage areas.
