Poll: Californians Gloomy About Budget
Californians have little faith that their leaders will properly solve the state´s multi billion dollar budget crisis. Respondents in a new statewide poll also dislike nearly all the proposed solutions to deal with a projected $38 billion deficit over the next two years.
The poll, taken by the Public Policy Institute of California, shows the lowest level of respect for California´s state government in the past five years.
Governor Gray Davis and Legislature leaders are struggling to agree on measures to meet a June 15th constitutional deadline to pass a budget for the fiscal year beginning July first. In several recent years without a huge revenue shortfall it has taken as long as September to get a budget approved.
