$10,000 Dognapping Brings Nationwide Response

Sponsored by:

Eighty-year-old Frank Compton gave up half his life savings to ransom his stolen dog.

He spent $10,000 to rescue Sandy. He calls the 10-year-old Yorkshire terrier his “buddy” and his only companion since his wife died four years ago.

Now offers to replace the money have been flooding in from around the country.

San Joaquin Sheriff´s Detective Chris Villegas is investigating the dognapping. He says he´s fielded at least a hundred calls from as far away as New York, Missouri and Mississippi.

The county´s Adult Protective Services office has set up a fund at a Valley Springs bank to accept all the donations. Compton hopes the publicity will discourage other dognappers.
