Council Passes Revised Tourist Tax

Sponsored by:

In a four-to-one vote Monday night, the Sonora City Council voted to adopt a revised resolution about the Transient Occupancy Tax.

Also known as the Tourist Tax, the resolution would increase from 8 to 9 percent the tax paid by folks staying in hotels and motels, as well as campsites and other lodging.

The original version included houseboats too, but the revision passed last night deleted references to houseboats.

Mayor David Sheppard remained consistent with his record on the issue, and voted against the TOT Ballot Measure.

Supervisors are dealing with the issue today.

The TOT measure is slated to be on the ballot November 2nd.
