He says the job is getting done, but recent violence and new security measures aren´t making it any easier.
Sheriff Dennis Downum from Calaveras County, has been in Iraq since March, and is back in the Mother Lode for a few more days.
He tells the Calaveras Enterprise that security is much tighter since the recent violence in Fallujah, which is one of the Iraqi cities where Downum oversees officer training.
Downum is assigned to the Al Anbar province of Iraq, which runs from Fallujah west, to the Syrian border.
He says he´s lost some of his optimism after the recent killings of American contractors, but he still believes the U.S. efforts can work.
Downum leaves for Iraq again, this Thursday.
