Sonora Man Convicted Of Second-Degree Murder

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — A 33-year-old Sonora man will be sentenced on charges of second-degree murder after being convicted Friday.

The charge stems from a fatal vehicle accident in August in which Mark Hernandez drove his car into the rear end of a truck being driven by 71-year-old David Lomeli of Tuolumne at a high rate of speed.

Authorities say Hernandez had a blood alcohol level of point-two-seven an hour and a half after the accident.

Lomeli passed away after sustaining a broken neck in the crash.

Hernandez could face eleven years to life in prison. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for January 11th.
