Board Votes To Retain Council Of Governments

The Calaveras County Council of Governments will remain intact.

Supervisors have voted 3-2 in favor of rescinding a previous Board decision to abolish COG. The Council of Governments handles transportation planning and the pursuit of grant money for transportation projects in Calaveras County. Some Supervisors have expressed concern that the agency was forcing the county to pay a disproportionate amount of funding for projects in other municipalities, like Angels Camp. Supervisor Steve Wilensky says yesterday´s vote means COG will continue its work and will not be disbanded in June.

The vote reinstates the Planning Agency for transportation in the county. Supervisors also voted in favor of to settling the county´s litigation with the Area-12 Agency on Aging, voting to retain their contract with the agency.
