CHP Says Click It Or Ticket
Wednesday, February 16th is the CHP´s official “Click it or Ticket” day, but each day in 2005 may be considered a click it or ticket day in the Mother Lode.
Jamestown based CHP Officer Tom Wills says that due to a rash of serious and fatal accidents, Mother Lode CHP officers will be aggressively issuing citations to motorists and passengers that fail to buckle-up everyday.
Almost all of the recent fatalities on Mother Lode roadways this year have involved motorists not wearing seat belts . A 31-year old Jamestown man was killed on Thursday on Highway-49 near Parrot´s Ferry Road. He was not wearing a seat belt . Wills says officers will also be looking for young children riding as passengers without a safety seat.
The concentration of CHP patrols on Wednesday is partially funded by a state grant to cover officers overtime. Wills says the public can report children not properly buckled up by calling (800) TELL-CHP.
