McDonald’s To Pay Millions In Fat Lawsuit

McDonald´s will pay seven (m) million dollars to the American Heart Association to settle a lawsuit accusing the fast-food giant of failing to reduce fat in the cooking oil used in its popular french fries and other foods.
The deal requires the association to use the proceeds to educate the public about the trans fats in foods. Heart-clogging trans fat is made when manufacturers add hydrogen to vegetable oil. BanTransFats-dot-com sued McDonald´s in a California court in 2003, alleging McDonald´s did not effectively disclose to the public that it had not switched to a healthier cooking oil.
