World’s Most Successful Rescuer Honored
A Yosemite search and rescue volunteer credited with participating in more rescues than any other living human is being honored by the federal government.
Werner Braun has been awarded the coveted President´s Call to Service award and the Department of Interior´s Conservation Service Award. Bruan is famous among rock climbers. He´s helped with an estimated 1500 rescues during his 35 year career. Braun also engineered and designed Yosemite´s mobile command center.
Park Superintendent Michael Tollefson says Braun´s tremendous skills and efforts have provided an invaluable service to the park and visitors. Tollefson says Braun has arguably saved more lives than any other rescue technician in the world.
