CUSD Financial Director Resigns
By John Hall
After little more than a year with the district, Calaveras Unified School District Director of Fiscal Services Justin Frese resigned to take a similar position in Napa County.
The district´s board of trustees approved Frese´s resignation, which was effective Friday, at its Feb. 15 meeting.
Frese is moving to the St. Helena Unified School District, where he will be the chief budget officer. Before coming to CUSD, Frese was director of accounting for the Selma Unified School District in Fresno County.
The St. Helena district is about half the size of Calaveras Unified, and Frese will make “a lot more money,” according to CUSD Superintendent Jim Frost.
“It´s a good move for him,” Frost said.
The CUSD board does not intend to hire a new employee for the position vacated by Frese, but will use other administrators and, possibly, consultants to manage the position´s tasks, board member Hank Nagle said. The district will use the resulting savings to help offset budget deficits.
