Sacramento, CA — Californians will soon have the opportunity to strike it rich in one of the biggest lotteries in the country.

Officials with the California Lottery Commission announced today that the first tickets to the multi-state “Mega Millions” lottery will go on sale June 22nd with the first live drawing from California slated for June 24th.

Officials say drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday night. Players choose five numbers from a field of 56 plus a “mega” number from one to 46. Players matching all five numbers and the “mega” number collect the grand prize jackpot.

The “Mega Millions” lottery was introduced in 1996 and made history in May of 2000 when it offered the largest jackpot of any drawing in American history at $363 million.
