Bill To Change Dog Laws Introduced In Senate

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — In Sacramento Tuesday, State Senator Jackie Speier introduced a bill that would allow cities and counties to enact breed-specific laws affecting dogs.

The move comes in the wake of a 12-year-old boy´s mauling death by his family´s two large pit bulls in San Francisco earlier this month.

Speier introduced the bill at the request of San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom.

S-B 681 would allow local governments to enact rules affecting specific breeds.

The bill would not allow any specific breed to be banned, but other restrictions could be put in place.

The bill is tentatively scheduled to be heard in Assembly Health Committee on July 5th.
