Calaveras River Contaminated With Fecal Bacteria

Calaveras County, CA — According to a recent report the Calaveras River and other waterways connected to it have dangerous levels of fecal bacteria contaminate.
The report by Tetra Tech states that the high bacteria levels most likely violate state drinking water standards and could lead to health concerns.
People who swim in streams or reservoirs could come into contact with the bacteria, as well as campers who drink stream water without disinfecting it.
The water district plans to do additional studies to determine whether leaky septic systems or animal waste is responsible for the problem.
