Sheriff’s Department Has Tips To Avoid Credit Card Fraud

Sponsored by:

Sonora, Ca — The Holiday season is a time for sharing and giving, but for some it can be a time for taking.

The Tuolumne County Sheriff´s Department has a few tips to make sure you are not a victim of credit card fraud this season.

Sgt. Matt Zelinsky says you should sign your card as soon as you get. That way, if it becomes stolen, the thief will not be able to forge a signature.

He advises that you carry your card separate from your purse or wallet. If a purse or wallet is stolen, you will not have to worry about your card being in it.

He adds that shoppers should keep an eye on merchants making the transactions, noting that there have been some situations in the past were merchants have stolen credit card numbers and kept a copy of the receipt.

Zelinsky says it should be a point to keep a copy of all receipts and match them with your bills at the end of the month.
