CDF Officials Caution Mother Lode Of Cooking Hazards

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA– The California Department of Forestry is using the second week of October to remind Mother Lode residents that preparing a good meal should not be the only task in the kitchen.

Officials say there are about 290 people who die and 4,380 injured each year from house fires associated with cooking equipment. This year´s campaign is “Prevent Cooking Fires: Watch What You Heat.”

CDF officials offer some tips to help prevent cooking fires including never leaving the kitchen unattended while frying, grilling, broiling or boiling food. They say it is also important to keep children away from ovens, stoves, and other sources of heat.

Lastly, if clothes should catch fire, remember the stop, drop, and roll method to smother the flames. For more safety tips visit the CDF website.
