Sonora High Girls Soccer Advances To Championship Game
Sonora, Ca — The Sonora High Girls Soccer team is headed to the Sac-Joaquin Division IV championship game.
In a hard fought battle, the girls defeated the Dixon Rams of Solano County 2-0 Thursday evening at Dunlavy Field.
Four minutes into the game, senior Rebecca Castro found fellow senior Lexi Kopf who was able to score a quick goal to put Sonora in the lead. Later in the contest, Leanna Castro found the net to put Sonora up 2-0.
Head Coach Buzz Garvin credits the girls for finding a way to score early, and playing stout defense the entire game. He notes that the high temperatures at game time put a strain on both teams. “It was a very hot day,” says Garvin. “Our girls were getting tired, so I´m sure their girls were getting tired too.”
The championship game is set for Saturday morning at Folsom High against either West Campus of Sacramento or Colfax.
