Sacramento, CA — “Let’s grab the money and run.”
That is the comment of Calaveras County Sheriff Dennis Downum who will spend the major portion of his day in Sacramento today. He’ll be meeting with a number of state officials including the State Finance Director and the Corrections Standards Authority in the hopes of securing a guarantee that the county will receive $26 million from the state for the jail project.
Given the current economic climate and the state’s dismal financial picture, there has been some doubt on the part of the supervisors that the state would come through with the funding from AB900 that was passed two years ago. That is why the entire project has been placed on the back burner for the time being.
