It’s Helping California Kids Stay Safe

Sacramento, CA — It’s the 10th Anniversary of California’s Amber Alert Program. CHP says thanks to the alerts, hundreds of children have been reunited with loved ones.

CHP says since the program started in 2002, 235 children have been recovered and 121 abductors have been arrested.

CHP Captain Greg Ferrero says their newest weapon is the internet. He says social media like Twitter is one new tool they started using this year. However, he says the best weapon they have against child abductors is you.

Ferrero reminds people to pay attention when an alert goes out over the radio or on Caltrans electric signs on roadways. He says write down the description given of the suspect, car and child, then call 911.
