Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — Nearly two dozen new laws go into effect in California today.

The one receiving the most attention nationwide is a ban on the culinary delicacy foie gras. The product is created by force-feeding ducks through tubes so that there liver grows to around 10 times its normal size. California is the first state to pass a ban.

California is placing new rules on used car dealers. Notably, cars must be marked with a bright red sticker if they are listed on the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System database as junk, salvage or inundated during floods. Also, sales of cars must now be registered electronically, which is designed to save the state money on paperwork costs.

Educators will receive more training on bullying as part of a new law. In addition, victims of bullies will receive higher priority when requesting a school transfer.
