Math Mini-Bowl Winners
San Andreas, CA — Calaveras held the 33rd Math Mini-Bowl on May 23rd. The competition is an opportunity for students to meet, compete, and have fun with other students from throughout Calaveras County. Each school in Calaveras was invited to send 10 fifth and 10 to 15 sixth graders. Approximately 190 fifth and sixth grade students from Calaveras County Schools compete in the event.
There were three categories of competition; The BLITZ (a 45-minute individual competition with 50 multiple‐choice answers); the HUDDLE (a pairs competition where students work alone for 25 minutes and then together for 15 minutes); and the BOMB (a five-member team event).
First place in the 5th grade Blitz went to three 5th graders for answering 45 out of 50 math problems correctly: Tyler Crawford and Sydney Jones both from Hazel Fischer Elementary and Bennie Hesser from Valley Springs Elementary. The 6th grade Blitz went to Thomas Wimple of Avery Middle School with 47 out of 50 problems correct.
First place in the Huddle went to Beck Ritzel and Brendelyn Stuart from Christian Family Learning Center. The sixth grade Huddle went to Isabel Morrison and Ruben Menzies of Valley Springs Elementary.
The first place award for the 5th grade Bomb went to the five person team from Hazel Fischer Elementary and the 6th grade Bomb went to Avery Middle School.
