Californians Remain Concerned About Economy

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — For the seventh consecutive year, a Field Poll finds that a majority of Californians feel that the state’s economy is in bad shape.

The poll released this morning finds that 72% of Californians are very concerned about the state’s economy. However, the number has fallen since the peak of 96% in 2009, 93% in 2010, 91% in 2011, and 88% last year. It’s a stark shift from back in 2001, when 69% of Californians felt the state’s economy was in “good times,” 7% undecided, and only 22% believed the state was experiencing bad economic times.

When asked if job opportunities in the state will improve over the next year, 36% said yes, 37% said no change, and 25% say it will worsen.

When it comes to personal finances, 30% say they are better off from last year, 26% say no change, and 44 percent believe they are worse off. The poll was conducted between February 5-17.
