Food Court, TCEDA And Vision Statement On Sonora Agenda

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The Sonora City Council will hold a public hearing tonight on plans to rezone the property at 15 Pesce Way so that a food court can be constructed.

The location, next to the AM/PM Mini Mart, is the site of the former Sonora Motors car dealership, and currently sits vacant. The proposal by Jaykay Properties, LLC, which also owns the mini-mart, was endorsed by the city’s planning commission on April 10, before a packed meeting room.

In addition, the city council will pick up a previous debate on whether to increase the amount of funding it is willing to allocate to the Tuolumne County Economic Development Authority. The TCEDA is requesting a $15,000 increase from the city during the next budget year.

Also, the city will talk about whether to allow open containers, and public consumption of alcohol, within the street closures, during the May 13 Mother Lode Roundup Parade.

There will also be a discussion about revising the vision and mission statements for the city. For example, the proposed new draft vision statement is “The City of Sonora will provide a safe and healthy community in which to live, work and prosper, while embracing our arts, culture and historical character.”

The current vision statement, last amended in 2003, reads, “The City of Sonora has an obligation to provide the community with a clean, safe and secure environment in which to live and work, and to preserve and promote its historic character.”

Tonight’s meeting, which is open to the public, gets underway at 5pm at city hall.
