Update: Crash In Angels Camp Area A Double Fatal

Update at 5:30 p.m.: The CHP reports Murphys Grade Road has just reopened after a double fatal crash just north of French Gulch Road in the Angels Camp area. The roadway was closed for more than two hours as emergency crews dealt with the injured and then tow crews worked to clear the wreckage. No names are being released pending notification of family.  (More details regarding the crash are below.)

Update at 4:50 p.m.: The CHP has asked Clarke Broadcasting to report since the crash is north of Bret Harte High School and they have received several calls from frantic parents that no students were involved in the deadly crash.

Update at 4:15 p.m.: The CHP has confirmed that a head-on crash on Murphys Grade Road is a double fatal. The crash happened just before 3 p.m. just north of the French Gulch Road intersection in the Angels Camp area. CHP officer Rebecca Myers states that a person from each vehicle has died and there are also major injuries involved in the accident. Murphys Grade Road has been shut down as the wreckage is spread across the roadway. Motorists are being asked to avoid the area.

There are also major injuries in the accident with an air ambulance called to the scene.

Original post at 3:15 p.m.: Angels Camp,  CA — Emergency crews are on the scene of a major injury crash on Murphys Grade Road just north of the French Gulch Road intersection in the Angels Camp area.

The CHP reports two-vehicles have collided head-on and Murphys Grade Road has been shut down due to wreckage on the roadway. Officers are turning traffic around in both directions. An air-ambulance has been called to the scene. There are reports CPR is being given to one person at the scene. We will bring you more details as soon as it comes into the news center.
