A Great Run For Sonora Girls Volleyball

Sonora, CA — It was a great run, but the Sonora Girls Volleyball team lost to the top-seeded Menlo Knights who captured the NorCal Championship and a berth in the state title match.

The Knights beat the Wildcats in a five-set thriller. They tied at two sets a piece forcing a fifth set. Menlo was on a 13-match winning streak and had never played to five sets. Sonora took an early lead of 7-2 in game 4 and held on to win that set, but in game five the Knights came out firing and never trailed. Here are the scores for the matches 25-21, 22-25, 25-15, 21-25, 15-7.

Menlo now heads to the Div. IV state championship to face Francis Parker-San Diego at Santiago Canyon College in Orange County.

The Sonora High varsity team members are Ali Pelfrey, Kelsie Evans, Bailey Henington, Kiana Pisula, Bella Bergamaschi, MaKenzee Hope, Shannon Friend, Angela Gardella, Maria Chacon, Savannah Lawrence and Leah Dambacher.

Head Coach Kim Evans is in her sixth year at Sonora High.
