Poetic License Costs Prof Second Job

The creative resume writing that cost California´s first poet laureate the statewide post has now ended his academic career.

University of California, San Diego professor Quincy Troupe said Tuesday that he will resign from teaching American and Caribbean literature and creative writing at the school.

Troupe said he regretted his lapse in judgment and the problems he has created for the UCSD community, where he has taught for 12 years.

The author of 13 poetry books resigned in October as California´s first official poet laureate after it was discovered that his graduation claim from Louisiana´s Grambling State University was fiction.

UCSD Chancellor Robert Dynes agreed with Troupe´s decision to resign, said his writing and teaching would be missed.

Troupe´s resignation is effective July 1st, the end of the university´s academic year. He will continue teaching until then.
