Smoke Problems Subject of Meetings

Sponsored by:

MyMotherLode.com News has learned area Congressman George Radanovich along with US forest service officials here in Sonora are putting together plans to hold several meeting regarding a smoky problem.

According to the U.S. Forest Service, the public town hall meetings will be held to discuss issues about the smoke that plagues the Mother Lode region each spring and summer from controlled burns and lightning fires that are allowed to burn for weeks at a time.

Forest Service and Yosemite National Park officials defend that type of managed use of fire as highly beneficial to fire safety and health of the forest:

Stanislaus National Forest spokesman Jerry Snyder says these public meetings will likely be held next month or January of next year.
