Law Enforcement Wants to Ease Tax Passage

Sponsored by:

California sheriffs and police chiefs are looking for an easier way to raise local tax money for public safety. They´ve unveiled a proposed constitutional change to pass new public safety taxes with a 55% majority. Right now, new taxes must win a 2/3 supermajority.

The idea must pass the Legislature, then win a public vote to go into effect. Law enforcement officers are trying to copy the success of schools. They´ve passed $14 billion in new funding since winning a 55% requirement for new taxes.
