Seven Democratic women members of the U.S. Senate joined California Senator Barbara Boxer Wednesday at a fund-raiser for Boxer´s 2004 re-election campaign. The senators attending the event at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco were: Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray of Washington state; Dianne Feinstein of California; Mary Landrieu of Louisiana; Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas; Barbara Mikulski of Maryland; and Debbie Stabeno, of Michigan. The only other Democratic woman senator — Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York — did not attend. Boxer is running for a third term in the U.S. Senate.
Several Republicans are thinking of challenging her, including U.S. Representatives Doug Ose, Darrell Issa, and George Radanovich. Former Governor Pete Wilson also has been mentioned as a possible candidate.
