CalCo Building, Planning Departments May Merge

Officials are looking at the possibility of combining the planning and building departments of Calaveras County.

The recommendation was discussed at the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors last week.

Supporters say the merger would allow the county to stay ahead of long-term planning issues, like traffic flow and residential developments… but not everyone likes the idea.

Opponents say additional planners and inspectors need to focus on specific and immediate issues… since the departments are bogged down already.

Four out of five Calaveras County board members back the idea… according to the Stockton Record… and builders are split on the idea too.

A formal proposal on combining the building and planning departments is being prepared by the county´s administrative officer.
