People Are Going Nuts About Almonds

Sponsored by:

You can´t blame California almond growers for getting pretty worked up about this year´s almond crop.

Even though growers are producing more almonds, growing demand for the nuts keeps driving prices up.

The president of Blue Diamond Growers — the world´s largest nut processing company — told a group of growers during an annual meeting in Fresno yesterday that bigger and bigger crops will be needed to satisfy the world´s demand for almonds.

Almond growers enjoyed a record return last year — even though it was the second year in a row that the industry produced more than one (b) billion pounds of nuts.

And this year, farmers are getting about two dollars per pound — almost double what they got just three years ago.
